Family owned and run Sugar Bush Bay was established in December 2019 by Robby and Xavier and their son Jonathan. Hailing from Robertsham, Johannesburg the family decided to settle down right next to the Vaal River after returning from a 4-year stint in Malawi, where they brought back their love for Lake Malawi and the fishing. The family bought the beautiful property on the Vaal River and transformed the open piece of land into their dream home. Having fallen in love with their surroundings at first sight, they knew they had to open their space to like-minded nature enthusiasts and that is how Sugar Bush Bay was born.
Sugar Bush Bay is situated in Vischgat and is the ideal spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle while enjoying some relaxed fishing on the banks of the Vaal River. Following a catch and release policy, avid fishermen, women and children can sit back and relax while waiting for any of the following fish species to make that bite: Small and Largemouth Yellowfish, Common and Mirror Carp, Mudfish, Barbel, Largemouth Bass, . The fishing is very good at Sugar Bush Bay – you might not catch the elusive BIG one, but you will definitely enjoy the fishing and the mystery of which bait works and which doesn’t.
For those who do want to rest their weary heads, this tranquil setting offers 6 campsites (tents and Bush Baby trailers allowed) overlooking the Vaal River each with its own table and benches, braai facility, water point and an electrical point. The communal ablution block features three bathrooms, one containing a shower and bath and the other two with shower facilities only. A communal wash up area with warm water is also available.
Sugar Bush Bay is your home away from home where you wake up to the majestic Fish Eagles calling to each other and the Piet my Vrou calling for his wife, the Guinea Fouls waking the family up to go forage for food. The sunrises are breath taking and the sunsets over the river are magnificent.
Sugar Bush Bay welcomes children and have a swimming pool and trampoline available for their use.
The small tuck shop offers wood, ice cold drinks, bread and milk, fishing tackle, bait, mielie bomb, sweets and other odds and ends. Should you require any other items, the nearest shop is 25 minutes away.
